A calculator adds a price, from your parameters, price lists and rules. They work on their own or together. Either way, the base is the same: your options and the rules about what goes with what, written down as a model.
Construction, fit-out, roofing, insulation, metal and stone fabrication. Cleaning, waste, insurance estimating. Manufacturers whose configuration options depend on each other. Anyone whose options or pricing live in a spreadsheet only one person understands.
If every job is specified and priced from scratch after a site visit, there may be no rules to model — we check that before anything is built.

A configurator or calculator is planned during the build of a new site, or added later to a site IndexDock built — without buying the site again. It is not included in the site's starting price and not listed on the pricing page: its scope and cost are agreed per project, from the rules to be modelled and the integrations required. Functions shared with a CRM or an AI assistant are estimated once. Existing third-party code needs an individual review and estimate.
How do I put a calculator on my website?
Three routes. A plugin — quick to set up, suited to simple arithmetic. A form builder with calculated fields — works until options start depending on each other. A custom build — needed once pricing has real rules: this material excludes that finish, this volume changes the rate. Which one fits depends on how many such rules your pricing has.
How can I automate the quote process?
Write the rules down first: what drives the price, what the options are, what cannot go with what. That step is the core of the project. Once the model exists, the calculator and whatever it produces — a quote, a specification, a request — follow from it. Automation attempts often stall because the pricing was never written down, not because the software was difficult.
What types of products use configurators?
Anything sold in variants rather than as a fixed item. In practice: construction and fit-out — kitchens, bathrooms, roofing, insulation, coatings; metal and stone fabrication; modular buildings; ventilation and HVAC units; cleaning and waste services defined by area or volume; insurance estimating. The common trait is not the industry — it is that the product is a combination the customer chooses.
What are the different types of configurators?
Simple ones, where options are independent of each other. Relational ones, where options require or exclude each other and the valid combinations form a real ruleset — there the logic is most of the work, not the interface. Either kind can stop at a specification or go on to show a price. Visual and 3D configurators are a third category, mostly in e-commerce.

The customer reaches a valid configuration without waiting for an email — and, if a calculator is included, sees its price. You receive the request with the chosen configuration, so the first conversation starts from specifics. And the rules become something anyone on the team can check, instead of knowledge one person holds.
